LANA: A New Chapter in Cloth

Introducing LANA: our first considered collection of wool, linen and cotton upholstery fabrics. Developed by Matt in Yorkshire and woven by a specialist textile atelier in Italy, LANA brings together natural fibres, expressive pattern and colours inspired by the landscape.

A cloth should do more than simply cover a piece of furniture. It should contribute to its character, complement its form and become richer through the life lived around it.

That belief sits at the heart of LANA, our first considered collection of upholstery fabrics and an important new chapter for TallBoy Interiors.

For more than a decade, we have worked closely with fabric: using it to breathe new life into antique furniture, searching for the right cloth for individual commissions and developing upholstery for our Made by TallBoy collection. During that time, we became increasingly aware of what we wanted from a material—and how difficult it could be to find.

We wanted natural texture without unnecessary fuss. Pattern with presence, but enough restraint to live comfortably within an interior. Colours that felt rich and expressive rather than fleeting or fashionable. Most importantly, we wanted cloth with character: something capable of sitting naturally alongside the patina of an antique and equally at home on a newly made piece of furniture.

LANA grew from that search.

The meaning behind LANA

Lana is the Italian word for wool, one of the principal natural fibres within the collection and the starting point for its development.

Wool brings warmth, depth and resilience. Linen introduces a drier, more irregular texture, while cotton adds softness and balance. Bringing the three fibres together allowed us to create fabrics that feel tactile and substantial without becoming overly formal or heavy.

The composition was never simply a question of percentages. We considered handle, drape, texture, abrasion, colour depth and the way each cloth would respond to upholstery. The aim was to capture something of the character we value in antique furniture: subtle variation, honesty of material and a surface that does not feel too perfect.

Developed in Yorkshire, woven in Italy

LANA was developed by Matt from the TallBoy studio in Yorkshire, drawing on years spent working with antique upholstery, British furniture makers and private interior projects.

To produce the collection, we partnered with a specialist Italian textile atelier. Italy’s long relationship with textile making, combined with the atelier’s technical knowledge, allowed every stage to be carefully considered—from yarn selection and pattern development to weaving, colour and finishing.

The result brings together two complementary perspectives: the practical understanding that comes from working directly with furniture in Britain and the exceptional weaving expertise of our Italian makers.

Four distinctive designs

The collection comprises four designs, each with its own personality but created to sit comfortably alongside the others.

Boccolo

A richly tactile bouclé available in nine colours. Boccolo has a soft, irregular surface that brings warmth and depth to upholstery without overwhelming the shape of the furniture. It is particularly suited to generous seating, occasional chairs and softly tailored forms.

Spigato

Our interpretation of the classic herringbone. Spigato enlarges the familiar pattern to give it a stronger, more contemporary presence while retaining its timeless quality. Available in eight colours, it works beautifully across both antique and newly made furniture.

Ondulata

An undulating vertical stripe with a gentle sense of movement. Rather than following a rigid line, the pattern rises and falls across the cloth, creating rhythm without becoming overly decorative. Its eight colourways range from quiet neutrals to richer, more expressive shades.

Zisa

The boldest design in the collection, Zisa features an abstract zigzag woven with a deliberately irregular character. Available in eight colours, it was created for furniture that deserves to hold the room—whether used across an entire piece or as a carefully placed accent.

A palette inspired by nature

Colour was fundamental to the development of LANA.

Rather than responding to short-lived trends, we looked to the natural world: fog, forest, grain, slate, stone and shadow. From warm ochres and deep greens to mineral blues, charcoal and quieter earth-toned neutrals, the palette has been designed to feel expressive while remaining easy to live with.

These colours sit naturally beside the materials found throughout the TallBoy world—aged timber, forged metal, bronze, stone, plaster and timeworn leather. They can bring renewed energy to an antique without erasing its history or give a newly made piece an immediate feeling of warmth and permanence.

Across four patterns and 33 colourways, the collection can be combined in a way that feels layered rather than coordinated: a tactile bouclé beside a graphic zigzag, or a quiet herringbone paired with the movement of Ondulata.

Designed for furniture with a story

LANA was created first and foremost as an upholstery collection.

It can be used to reimagine one of our antique finds, specified across the Made by TallBoy furniture collection or purchased for an independent interior project. The fabrics have been developed to work across different periods and styles, allowing the personality of the furniture to remain visible while adding a new layer of colour and texture.

We believe the most compelling interiors are rarely drawn from one period or one point of view. They develop gradually through objects, materials and furniture that have meaning. LANA was designed with that same philosophy: four individual patterns brought together through a shared respect for material, craftsmanship and enduring design.

The beginning of something new

LANA represents the next natural step for TallBoy Interiors.

It connects the antique furniture with which our story began, the British-made pieces we design today and the materials that allow each piece to become personal. It is a collection built from experience, curiosity and a desire to create something we genuinely wanted to use ourselves.

The first production has been intentionally considered, with selected fabrics held in stock and additional quantities available to order. Samples are available for those wishing to experience the colour, weave and texture in person.
