Tidy Warehouse, Tidy Mind
The warehouse is rarely the glamorous side of the business, but in many ways it is the part everything else depends on.
It is where new finds arrive, where pieces wait before heading to the showroom or a client, where sold items are prepared for delivery, and where the constant movement of stock really happens. It is the engine room of TallBoy Interiors.
Recently, we have been giving it a proper reset.
The biggest focus has been making better use of the racking so that everything has its own place. Antique furniture is often awkward in scale and shape, and storage has to do more than simply fit as much in as possible. Pieces need to be protected, accessible and stored in a way that means they are not constantly being moved around unnecessarily.
Giving each item a defined space makes a huge difference. Chairs can sit safely without being stacked or knocked, smaller objects can be grouped and protected, and larger pieces can be stored with enough room around them to avoid damage.
Just as importantly, it clears the floor.
That extra space matters because the warehouse is always changing. New stock arrives, pieces are photographed, items are moved to the showroom, collections are prepared, and deliveries come and go. If the floor becomes too crowded, every job takes longer and everything becomes harder to manage.
Clearing it back creates room for new additions and makes the whole operation feel calmer and more efficient.
There is also something satisfying about knowing exactly where everything is. In a business built around one-off pieces, where no two items are the same, organisation becomes even more important. Good storage means less handling, better protection and a smoother journey for each piece from arrival to its next home.
The showroom may be the part most people see, but the warehouse is where everything starts.
And when the warehouse works well, the rest of the business tends to work better too.
