The Piece

About this piece

A remarkably rare 19th century Italian drapers table, made entirely from solid walnut and beautifully proportioned on an unusually grand scale.

Originally designed as a working table for a draper or merchant, it combines generous surface space with four practical drawers and a full-length lower shelf. The shaped supports and gently curved stretcher give the table a far more elegant profile than most utilitarian examples, while the walnut has developed a wonderfully rich, warm colour and mellow patina over time.

What makes this piece particularly special is the balance between scale and refinement. Despite its impressive length, the carved legs, shaped lower shelf, reeded table edge detail and slender proportions keep it feeling light and architectural rather than heavy.

A superb piece for a large entrance hall, drawing room, kitchen or retail interior, where it could be used as a console, display table or central room piece. Equally strong styled simply with sculpture, lighting and collected objects.

Solid condition, totally original and no major issues.

Why we chose this piece +

This is a very rare piece and not something that you will find often, in fact this is the first of this scale I have every found in 11 years I have been an antique dealer. The quality, originality and condition are exceptional. Walnut being used as the timber is a wonderful choice and the patina it has taken on over the years only add to the piece.
